After decades of military dictatorship, the people of Burma are rising – and they need our help. Marches begun by monks and nuns are snowballing: today 100,000 have taken to the streets of Rangoon.
When the Burmese last marched in 1988, the military massacred thousands. But if the world stands up for the protesters, this time it could be different. SO. We live down the road from a Lutheran church, with a Finnish woman pastor, and services in English, Finnish and Japanese. Our block has a high end electronics store jostling with sushi, pizza, a Thai convenience store, and a deli run by a Yemenese guy who likes Indians.
